Vahagn Vardani Shahbazyan

Ph.D., Associate Professor 

Born on September 16, 1946, in the city of Leninakan, in a family of a civil servant.

From 1953 to 1964, he studied at schools No. 23 and No. 2 in Leninakan.

In 1964, he was admitted to the Technological Faculty of the Leninakan branch of the Polytechnic Institute named after K. Marx in Yerevan, where he graduated in 1969 and was appointed as an assistant in the same branch.

In December 1972, he was admitted to the postgraduate program at the Moscow Textile Institute, specializing in "Materials Science."

In January 1976, he defended his candidate thesis and received the scientific degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences. His thesis dealt with methods of quality control, monitoring methods, and evaluation techniques of products.

From January 1976, he worked as an assistant at the "Technology of Textile and Light Industry" department of the Leninakan branch.

From September 1976, he worked as a senior lecturer in the same department, having been selected through a competition.

In June 1977, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor. In July of the same year, he was selected through a competition as the head of the "Technology of Textile and Light Industry" department.

In December 1978, he was elected to the position of dean of the Technological Faculty.

In November 1995, following the elections, he was appointed head of the Department of Professional Training of the Gyumri Educational Complex of the State Engineering University of Armenia.

In 1996, he was appointed Deputy Director for Academic Affairs of the Gyumri Educational Complex of the State Engineering University of Armenia.

Since June 1999, he has performed the duties of Director of the Gyumri Educational Complex of the State Engineering University of Armenia.

In 2000, he was elected Director of the Gyumri Educational Complex of the State Engineering University of Armenia.

In April 2003, due to the transformations made in the State Engineering University of Armenia, he was re-elected to the position of Director of the Educational Complex.

In 2009, after passing a competition, he was again elected as the director of the branch.

In February 2012, he ceased his duties as director due to retirement.

Since 2012, he has been working at the State Engineering University of Armenia as an Associate Professor at the Textile Engineering Department and advisor to the director.

During his career, he has participated in the public, educational-methodical, and scientific-research activities of the university.

He is the author of 50 scientific and methodological works, which have been published both in the republic and abroad.

In 2009, he published a textbook titled "Automated Systems for Quality Control and Management of Textile Products and Technological Processes."

He has frequently participated in conferences in Moscow, Vitebsk, Leningrad, Kutaisi, Yerevan, and Gyumri.

From 1983 to 1988, he was a member of the coordinating methodological council of the USSR Higher Education Committee for textile and light industry and household services universities.

He participated in the development of curricula and subject programs for new specialties.

He is a corresponding member of the Armenian Academy of Engineering, Professor.

In November 2002, he completed retraining courses within the Tempus Tacis program at Lund University in Sweden.

In September-October 2004, he participated in the same program's seminar sessions at Pierre Mendes University in Grenoble, France.

In 1983, he was awarded the Jubilee Medal on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of YPI.

In 1983, for long and conscientious work and on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of YPI, he was awarded the Jubilee Badge "50 years of YPI."

In 1984, he was awarded a certificate of honor from the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR.

In 2003, he received a letter of gratitude from the President of the Republic of Armenia.

In 2006, he received the Gold Medal of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia.

In 2009, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the branch, he was awarded the Prime Minister's Gold Medal.

In 2019, he was awarded the Memorial Medal by the Mayor of Gyumri.

During his career, he has received numerous commendations and letters of gratitude.

He is married and has two daughters.
